Entering frozen Lake Oeschinensee and ice skating / ice skating

Modified on Tue, 31 Dec, 2024 at 2:26 PM

Safety first: The frozen Lake Oeschinen may only be entered with official authorisation. This is non-negotiable - your personal safety depends on it. You can find out what you should do before entering the ice here:

Always check the current status on our website www.oeschinensee.ch and on site at Lake Oeschinen on the information screens. Speak to a ranger to get the latest information.

Note on skating on the frozen Oeschinensee:

  • There is no infrastructure on site, such as changing rooms or skate hire.
  • If the ice is covered with snow, skating is no longer possible.
  • If conditions permit, the UNESCO Ice Walk (winter hiking on the frozen Lake Oeschinen) offers a unique experience.

Note on hiking on the frozen Oeschinensee:

  • The lake is very slippery - be careful. We recommend ice spikes
  • Cold temperatures prevail, wear good clothing!
